Class 1 have been exploring the op art created by the modern artist Bridget Riley who was born in Norwood, South London in 1931 and is still alive today.

Drawing and painting became the centre of her life from an early age. She began her first Op Art paintings, working only in black and white and using simple geometric shapes – squares, lines and ovals. From 1967 onwards she increasingly began to use colour. Here are a couple of her art pieces.

The children created black and white art work in the style of Bridget Riley, then moved on to introduce colour and they experimented with grouping different shapes together.

Bridget Riley is renowned for creating large art pieces. The Year 1s created a large art piece using chalks and hoops in the playground.
