Clearing the Garden in Autumn
Coming into school in September Class 1 were faced with a very over run garden. There were weeds everywhere and lots of vegetables and fruit that had grown over the summer break. This presented the children with the opportunity to experience where food comes from and to taste food straight out of the garden.
The children enjoy being in the natural environment and they were soon engaged with the outdoors. They worked very hard harvesting the vegetables and fruit and clearing the weeds with the support of children from Class 4. They learned that weeding kept them physically active.
The children explored the herb garden; feeling and smelling the different plants.
The children were extremely excited when they found a big brown slug. They are now looking forward to spring when they will start to grow plants.
