Downham Market in Bloom 2017
The children in Class 1 have been developing their gardening skills in school with the help of Mr Ratcliff, a parent volunteer. The children have grown and cared for potatoes, onions, tomatoes and a courgette. They have also planted flowers in pots, cared for them and observed the changes to the plants over time. In addition, they have been learning about the wild plants in their local environment.
To enhance this learning further the children supported the Downham Market & District Schools in Bloom by creating their own seed tray gardens at home with their parents. The children thoroughly enjoyed sharing and talking about their gardens with their peers and adults in and out of school. I am proud to say that every child in the class took part in this project and the school had 25 amazing gardens to enter into the competition.
On Saturday 8th July 2017, most of the children with their families went to view the gardens in the Town Hall in Downham Market. The children’s outstanding effort was rewarded by Denver VC Primary School winning ‘First Place School 2017’ and also one pupil, Ivy , won a certificate of merit for her rainbow garden.
